Fred Moss collection, circa 1950-1958.

The Fred Moss collection consists of a variety of print materials collected by the donor while a student at Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) in the 1950s. There are handbooks, brochures, pamphlets and Kodak publications that all relate to the graphic arts. There are also a number of RIT publications such as a sports bulletin, student handbook, and a course catalog. The Fred Moss collection contains publications collected by Fred Moss while a student at RIT in the 1950s. He was a Printing major and played baseball and basketball while at the school. Mr. Moss was a member of the undefeated 1955-56 men's basketball team that was inducted into RIT's Sports Hall of Fame in 2011. This was the first team ever to be inducted. Some of the publications are RIT related, such as a course catalog, meeting minutes, winter sports bulletin, and student handbook. Other publications are printing and graphic arts related. These include publications from the Kodak Graphic Arts division, pamphlets on the development of the intertype, a Heidelberg press brochure, and a pressmen's ink handbook.

It is unclear when the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) first admitted minority students. However, it appears as though the first African American students entered the Rochester Athenaeum and Mechanics Institute (renamed RIT in 1944) during the early 1900s. For instance, in 1906 Fredericka Sprague, the granddaughter of Frederick Douglass, took classes at the Institute. Fred Moss graduated from Rochester Institute of Technology's (RIT) printing program in 1958. While at RIT, he played men's basketball and baseball.
